YOU ONLY NEED ONE IDEA

Letters become
little sound blocks.

Korean letters fit together into syllables. Start with a consonant, add a vowel, and read the block as one sound.

At the start of a block, ㅇ is silent. So ㅇ + ㅏ = 아 is simply “a”.

English spellings are a guide, not an exact pronunciation. Listen to the Korean audio.
Do I need to know Korean already?

No. Start in Build & listen, pick two letters, and hear their sound. Then try a short quiz. First steps uses just 24 combinations.

How does the voice check work?

Your browser listens in Korean and compares its recognized syllable with the card. It is reading practice, not a pronunciation score. Short syllables, accents, children’s voices, and background noise can confuse it. You never lose points for trying again. Voice check availability depends on your browser and speech service.

Why can different vowel spellings sound the same?

Many Korean speakers pronounce ㅐ and ㅔ alike. ㅙ, ㅚ, and ㅞ can also sound alike. Voice practice accepts these common same-sound spellings while showing the target spelling. The listening game shows only one member of each same-sound group among its choices.

Are these all Korean syllables?

This game covers all 399 combinations of 19 starting consonants and 21 vowels, without a final consonant (받침). Final consonants and sound changes in words come later. Syllables are building blocks; not every block is a word on its own.

Is my voice or progress saved?

Sofnet does not record or store your voice. Your browser’s speech provider may receive audio when you choose voice check. Your practiced blocks are saved only in this browser, with no account. Standard site analytics do not include your voice or recognized words. Privacy policy.
